BECOMING A NEW GARDENER

SSCG is comprised of a diverse membership from many neighborhoods, ages, backgrounds, employment, abilities and skill level-- learning and growing our own food.  We have a common desire to garden nutrient rich food, herbs and flowers and to do so organically.  If you want to join us, we welcome you into this community.

  • New gardeners on the wait list can select their plots on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Please contact the Registrar if you would like to schedule a garden tour.

  • If you're looking for a mentor, please mention it to the Registrar, and you'll be shown available gardens near experienced gardeners willing to mentor you.

  • New Gardeners can only rent one plot in their first year.

  • Attend the next Orientation. We'll review the Gardeners' Handbook.  You can find dates for all of this on our Calendar

  • Once this is done, it's time to fill out the New Registration Form and pay your plot fees (if you haven't already paid them in person).

*Please make your checks payable to:

                      Second Start Community Garden

Once orientation is completed and fees have been paid, you'll be all signed up and ready to garden!  Check out our Calendar for events, workshare information, Board Meetings, potlucks and more!  You can also follow SSCG on Facebook for announcements and lots of other information.

WORK SHARE LABOR

Presently SSCG has two primary projects in need of donated expertise and materials.  These involve construction, irrigation, and plot mapping.  Another need is tree expertise for some neighbor tree overhang.  If you have materials you'd like to donate or expertise in these areas, we surely would like to hear from you.
